I'm very new to this site so please be nice. This looks a lot like stackexchange. I am fed up with stackexchange and their crazy number of sites and strange rules. I hope that someday they will face stiff competition that doesn't force users to manage accounts on five different sites just to ask question about computers. I want the openness of yahoo answers but the nice interface of stack exchange (ie markdown, voting, tags, etc). Is there such a site?
Have you tried quora? IMO they've solved the problems you are describing better. Askbot is a software that anyone can install and run their own forum with, generally on a focused topic, similarly to a standalone stackexchange site (at least at this time).
