When you have your settings set to instant email, every update made to a question will generate an email, even if it's a small typo change.

That can generate lots of unnecessary emails which don't really provide any substantive information.

I would like to add a feature that would only generate an email (on updates) if there is a minimum of X lines changed.

So if I set this parameter to "3" for example, emails would be sent if at least 3 lines were changed.

This would be a site wide setting set by the admin (not a per user setting!).

Some people will be surprised then if they do not receive an update... A per-user setting won't be a problem to make work, because it will add very little overhead on the cpu time. Maybe also add a "save as typo" option that will bypass email notification? Evgeny ( 2011-02-01 12:29:25 -0500 )edit
A per user setting would be ok, but I'd like a way to set the default setting. I don't think a "save typo" to bypass is a good idea. It's one more button that most users won't know what to do with :) Benoit ( 2011-02-01 13:07:22 -0500 )edit
