Hi from a newcomer. In the Q/A I'm going to report below I'm wondering if the fact that this site is not a discussion group, should be considered a "this site specific" choice or a choice by design.

FAQ excerpt:

What should I avoid in my answers?

ASKBOT: Open Source Q&A Forum is a question and answer site - it is not a discussion group.

In other words, is Askbot appropriate to handle discussions?

Askbot is by design very much oriented towards questions and answers. In my opinion, if you want a generic discussion forum, you should consider using one of the several popular alternatives
