If I login once using my Google id and the next time using my yahoo id, these are created as two separate users in Askbot. I want the ability to associate multiple open ids with a single user

The only way to associate more than one login method with the same account is to first login with one, and then add another. It can be done from the users profile page -> "manage login methods".

Otherwise it is impossible to verify that the person owns the account.

I know that this may be confusing as the user may forget which login method he/she used before. Maybe something can be done with the UI to make it less confusing, any ideas?

When I hover my mouse over the username, show me which open id I am using a tooltip, add a small logo near the username? mether ( 2011-07-16 09:42:38 -0500 )edit
It's a well-known problem with OpenID, and I haven't seen a satisfactory solution. Putting the information on the main user profile page might help. I'm assuming most users visit their profile page from time to time -- if they see "Google" every time they visit the page, that would help reinforce the information in their memory. (Although I have to say this issue is low-priority for me -- there are much bigger problems to tackle.) Tomasz P. Szynalski ( 2011-07-17 09:40:47 -0500 )edit
