Why askbot?

Well, I have put a lot of effort (about eight months of my free time) into making the original work of Mike Chen and Sailing Cai (CNPROG) available to everyone by translating the user interface to English, fixing numerous issues and adding new features. So I feel of this work as kind of an adopted baby - that's one of the reasons to start my own this project.

I have myself helped the OSQA project for the first month and a half of OSQA and some inner features of OSQA have migrated into askbot. Why did I split off? - I did not like certain aspects of project management, design and principles adopted at OSQA. Let's call it impedance mismatch :).

Finally - I want this project to be developed in the best traditions of the Django community and give back the features developed for askbot that can be re-used for wider purposes. Also, at askbot I would like to test new things (notably closure javascript library).

I hope that you might like working on askbot too as this project is highly open to contributors.
