I saw many QnA sites (powered by Stackoverflow and OSQA) - They all have Votes, Answers and Views in the homepage on the Left. (Askbot has on the right in the homepage)

IMO there are good reasons to keep it in the left side. We read and skim content from Left to right. Also keeping on the right-side means - posts gets less noticed, less votes and answers. And most views are reflected by their upvotes.

What was the reason in askbot to have it on the right?

I agree, whatever is on the left is more noticed. The question is what you want to stand out. I prefer the content of the question titles.

It is possible to re-position elements within the main page question snippet via css.

Yes, content should stand out and will be the first priority in the list.

But overall experience is important too. So lets have views and answers on the right side. But only votes on the left side. Why? its an important factor for bringing more activity - good voted-up posts stand out and Show. And in most forums, late comers join a discussion by seeing only UpVotes, nothing else. (I've Observed this a lot in HN) :) @Evgeny
