You can follow users "on the screen": see questions and answers from followed users, navigate the network of followers and followed users, and follow/unfollow people.
Still need to add ability to receive email updates for followed users.
Part of Well, looks like it's a popular idea. So, if a user follows someone he/she will get "red envelope" when there is any update from the way done. followed user and a separate email feed.
Of course connections themselves have valuable information.
