can askbot be a private membership site
like approved memberships or memberships pending approval. i want to use askbot as a private service for my company

Yes, have a look at the "settings" in the admin account -> "access control". One thing we don't yet have is an "invitation-only" mode, but it is possible to pre-approve specific email addresses and then you can handle the invitations via some other channel.
It is also possible to set up single sign on with your company user registration setting. To do this firstly domain must be changed to the subdomain at your company site, then single signon code that we send you will need to be embedded into your login flow.
