is it possible to remove the powered by askbot link from the footer page ? We are using the SAAS service (askbot.com)

Yes in "settings" -> "UI.." -> "skin, logos and HTML parts" find setting called "footer mode" then select the option you like.
There is also space for the custom footer HTML - you have to be careful there though as bad html can break the layout.

On self-hosted instances, however, this would not be nice. You should credit the developers!
