What is the need to re-enter Screen name and email after logging in using Gmail?

I logged in with google using my gmail account. My name is present in my gmail account and email I need to use is also present which is my gmail address.

What is the need for me to re-type this information? I would have given Askbot permission to access my profile. Can it not access this information and fill in by itself? By doing so, I would have easily logged in with a single mouse click.

Same would have happen if I used Facebook login.

What needs to be done to get this result?

It is possible to pull email from Google, but the downside is that in that case Google will be showing the extra screen every time user logs in, not just when he/she registers the first time.

Now users only enter their email and user name once and Google is not forcing user to express consent to log in by clicking a button on their page.

That is - it's a little harder to register, but easier to log in later.

Thanks for the response. However I don't understand why this is issue is not seen in other websites. For ex, In stackoverflow I logged in with Gmail account, logged out and logged in again with gmail without any fuss. Just like Askbot. I am not quite sure I understand why we will see the extra screen only in this case

What do you see when you first register at StackOverflow? Do they ask you to re-enter your email address? I remember they would create a dummy user name if you're lazy to create your own, but don't know how they do it now.

That's right. They just ask us to confirm whether the email address is valid and once we accept, they give the name as user_ud. It's up to us to edit our real name.
