How to backup an AskBot Site?

There are two other questions regarding this that I have found, but both seem to be rather old. What is the current state of the preferred backup method(s)?

Does this github repo offer any benefits?

[ EDIT: unfortunately I do not have enough karma to publish links so I cannot share a link to a django/github project tht Evgeny seems to have forked from someone who forked it from google. Also two other askbot questions from 2012]

Is the 'dump_forum' Administration Command sufficient for creating a backup that can be restored? (Contains ALL content - users, questions, comments, answers, uploaded data, etc?)

You can circumvent the karma limitation to publish links by formatting your link as code: it will appear as raw text with no actual link, but at least this way you can give the url.

"dump_forum" can be used, but there may be an issue with large files. It might be more reliable to directly back up the database dump and the directory of the uploaded images.

To enter a block of code:

  • enter empty line after your previous text
  • paste or type the code
  • select the code and press the button above
