To switch the language, a parameter LANGUAGE_CODE needs to be adjusted in the settings.py file.

If the translation is not yet available, it needs to be created first. Which language are you interested in?

Would you mind help translating? I've added you to the "translators" group - you can access url http://askbot.org/rosetta, pick the language and translate some phrases. From there you will also be able to download the translation file which will into an appropriate subdirectory under "askbot/locale". After the file is placed there, jump into the directory "askbot" and run command "python ../manage.py compilemessages".

Error: This script should be run from the Django SVN tree or your project or app tree, or with the settings module specified.

I see, that command needs to be run from the "askbot" directory so that settings.py file is one level up. That way django will know to store the translations within the askbot app. Regarding the only 68% translation progress - take a look at the "fuzzy" messages. Those are the ones that the system for some reason considers suspicious. Just make sure that they are correct and uncheck the "fuzzy" box. You are really fast :).

Also - if in the language there is only one plural form - like where "vote" and "votes" is written the same way, please do not translate the plural - not necessary. Are there plural forms in Chinese and Korean? And if you have difficulties with English - try google translate or a similar tool.

In Chinese "vote" and "votes" are the same word. After i installed "askbot",the manage.py file was in the "setup_templates" directory ,so when i run the command "python ../manage.py compilemessages" from the "askbot" directory ,the command couldn't work ,and i ran the command from the "setup_templates" directory, the above error was found.

Take a look at this post - http://askbot.org/en/question/93/why-do-i-get-a-no-module-named-askbotdeployment?answer=96#96 it explains the expected directory structure. In the developer installation "askbot" directory will also the application code and in the deployed site most of the "setup_templates" contents is moved 2 levels up. The original location is just for the distribution. I will definitely write up better manuals this week.

If the command is work correctly in your computer, could you upload the mo file to http://askbot.org/rosetta.
suyu8776's avatar suyu8776 (2010-12-13 02:35:40 -0500) edit
Hi the .mo file can be downloaded from the github, but you still need to remove the fuzzy marks - otherwise those messages wont translate. About half of the chinese translated messages are "fuzzy".
Evgeny's avatar Evgeny (2010-12-13 13:09:21 -0500) edit
I had executed "fuzzy" messages, there were only a little messages i didn't know the exact meaning and translate tool didn't give out the appropriate meaning. So i left them.Maybe someone else could translate them.

Thanks, I've pushed out your update - on git hub. There is one more thing to translate - file askbot/skins/default/media/js/i18n.js it is much smaller though. The best starting point is german translation, but also threr are some extra key messages in the englisj js locale. There may be some more missing js strings, but those should be minor. Thanks a lot for your efforts!
