2011-10-03 03:05:06 -0500 answered a question getting the title and text in the page in chinese

I can't see your screenshot (404 not found), but the issue you are describing seems to look like this one: Some page is rendered partially in English and partially in Chinese.

Evgeny commented saying that it's a known bug.

HTH!

2011-08-18 07:09:04 -0500 asked a question Upvote arrow on comments

I noticed that actually (0.7.19) it is possible to vote up a comment but not to revoke the vote, at least not by clicking on the arrow a second time. That's OK, it's a matter of design decision.

Yesterday I voted a comment. Today I saw the same comment and wanted to vote it up forgetting I already expressed my +1. This is the message I got clicking the arrow:

sorry, but older votes cannot be revoked (click to close)

I found a bit misleading to see the arrow, click on it, and only at this point discover I can't vote. Wouldn't it be more convenient to hide the arrow at all in this case?

@Evgeny luckily not shocked :) Might it have any sense to rename the user profile "favorites" tab to "followed" or smth like that? Just to maintain a sort of naming conventions.

Has the favorite star been removed? I can't see it anymore (0.7.19).

@Fitoria actually (0.7.18) it works, but it didn't when I tried some time ago.

@mether @Evgeny - Indeed the results are correct, this was my fault in reporting this issue (invalid). I was confused by the fact that after step 3 the search box does not contain my query anymore and the number of questions shown is wrong. This is something that should be fixed.

FF 5 and IE8 on Windows XP. Not yet tried on FF5/Linux, though this evening I will.
2011-08-05 04:39:59 -0500 asked a question Search terms lost in pagination

Askbot 0.7.14. When many result are returned from a search, the list of the resulting questions is paginated on more pages. The problem I get is that the search term is not always remembered from one page to another.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. type askbot and wait for the results coming from ajax, actually 340 questions
  2. click on next page or any page as well
  3. click on previous or next page

At this point the search box is empty and all the results are returned (not what I want).

Are you able to reproduce this behavior, confirming the issue?

2011-08-05 02:34:48 -0500 asked a question Some page is rendered partially in English and partially in Chinese

Sometimes (both on linux and windows, Firefox) it happens that pages are rendered with a different language from the one selected or in in a mix of language. It happened right now with the question Improving documentation. There is a screenshot for the issue.

I'm not able to give a recipe to reproduce this behavior, it seems to happen "randomly". The good news is that refreshing the page is enough to fix the thing.

Any thougt?

2011-08-03 17:38:04 -0500 marked best answer How does the search system work?

search string accepts several types of entries.

For tags:

#bug (on [bug] or [tag:bug])

If you add more tags - they will be searched with "or" expression.

If you want "and" expression on tags - just click on the tags, or delete them from search as needed. To exclude tags - there is no way yet to enter -#fixed, but there is the list of "excluded" tags that you can edit and choose filter - exclude ignored tags.

So if you want to see a list of bugs that are not yet fixed - add "fixed" to your ignored list, then select filter - "exclude ignored", then either enter "#bug" into the search string, or click on tag "bug".

For user-based search:

@Guandalino (or [user:guandalino])

For search in titles only:

[title: bug]

Simple text can be added as well - for the full text search.

Btw, in this moment there are 92 total bugs, 41 open and 52 fixed. :) Shouldn't the total be 93?

Playing with search I found a very similar question, http://askbot.org/en/question/461/is-there-a-way-to-list-all-the-unfixed-bugs-in. Thanks for the detailed explanations. I think it's a very powerful search engine, though not immediate.
2011-08-03 15:20:03 -0500 asked a question How does the search system work?

I'd like to contribute with some patch to Askbot. For this reason I was trying to do some statistics on Askbot bugs.

In particular I was interested in:

  1. all sort of bugs: bug
  2. fixed bugs: bug+fixed
  3. active bugs: I'd say bug-fixed, but doing so results in a list of fixed bugs.

What should I type in the search form to have the open bugs?

-- UPDATE: this is a reference I did after Evgeny's explanation. Hope I did it right.

The sum of Open and Closed differs from the total, so I probably forgot some tag in Closed cases.

Unfortunately at work I have to use the network I've been assigned to and can't change. I'll try to debug the issue tomorrow and report updates/more info, if any. Btw, thanks for Askboot, it looks promising :)

I'm using Askbot 0.7.7 installed in a virtual environment. This is the output of startforum at the end of its tasks:

Done. Please find further instructions in the file below: /home/xyz/sandbox/py/askbot/issue_1/askbot/doc/INSTALL

Actually the file INSTALL is not there but here:

2011-07-26 16:03:24 -0500 commented answer EnvironmentError: mysql_config not found
On recent Ubuntu versions the package libmysql-dev is not a valid choice anymore. Trying to install it on Ubuntu 11.04 I get this: unable to locate package libmysql-dev. In my case the EnvironmentError has gone installing libmysqlclient16-dev.

2011-07-26 11:08:51 -0500 asked a question Sign in problem using Google

I have installed Askbot in a virtual environment using PIP following the docs on website. After that I used the startforum command for one-time setup and got to this step:

Once the fresh copy of Askbot appears in your browser, create a new account at the site.

Now I'm stuck.

I tried to log into local Askbot at http://127.0.0.1:8000/account/signin/ using my Google account (clicking on Google icon) but the sign in process doesn't seem to work for me. At the top of the page I get this message:

OpenID https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id is invalid.

Considering that the signin on askbot.org using Google works without any issue I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

Anyone willing to help?

P.S. Not sure this is relevant, I'm behind the company NTLM proxy.
