Our subscribers to our askbot powered site (and this one) were hit this morning by a spammer. Subscribers thus received message with this spam and their spam filters will have marked points against us as a spammer.
What spam protection exists? Is there a method of preventing first time users from posting questions until their account has been approved?
Better still can a feature be added to block the automatic forwarding of a message to non admin subscribers until the new subscriber has reached a certain number of points. That would allow the site to self manage spam. ie. Spam and the user could be deleted quickly without other users noticing.
Also, the spammer came directly to our site after visiting askbot.org. What connection or list exists on askbot that could be linking the askbot site to ours?
