2012-01-20 17:42:24 -0500 asked a question Social Share Links not working anymore

I was just testing the facebook & twitter share links and they no longer appear to be working. Appears that the URL is not being passed on the URL and shows as "undefined"

example:

https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=undefined&ref=fbshare&t=OAuth+Login+to+Integrate+Drupal+User+Accounts

2012-01-20 11:03:41 -0500 asked a question OAuth Login to Integrate Drupal User Accounts

Our website uses Drupal and we already have lots of users with accounts and would like to give the them the option to login with their existing sikhnet account.

Is there a way to use a custom OAuth login provider? There is a drupal module which creates this functionality for drupal, but am unsure how this would be configured on Askbot side.

Thanks...

One other thing to add is when you first visit aksbot it has the status message in yellow at the top which says "First time here? Check out the FAQ!" however there is no link with that message and no FAQ shows anywhere noticeable. Ideally this should be a link or have something on the top half of the page that links to the FAQ section.

Ps. I love the idea of Karma points :) In fact we just released a new free online game called "The Karma Game" - http://www.sikhnet.com/karmagame

I know this is un-related...but couldn't help myself with all the talk of karma :)

Thanks evgeny. I think most people who just ask questions won't care about FAQ...but users who want to contribute or dig deeper will want to know. To start adding a faq link to the up-vote/down-vote popup would help.

The question still remains if no one has 15 karma points...how do you start the snowball of allowing users to upvote? I'm guessing that right now a moderator/admin has to do this...but it's not clear.

We could have links to specific parts of the FAQ directly from the popup messages. Adding FAQ link to the top is a good idea (still imo faq page will not be read very often).

In the future it will be possible to edit FAQ entries and transfer forum posts to FAQ, cannot say exactly when though.

2012-01-17 11:30:36 -0500 asked a question Way to Update FAQ page & Karma point details?

I've been digging in to Askbot and I think the idea of rewarding active users is great. I think it is important to make sure it is clear and understandable to users WHY and HOW to earn these points.

It all started when I was trying to upvote a question and saw the popup message saying I needed 15 points (but no link or indication as to HOW I can earn them). I then searched this site but didn't find any clear indication about how the point system works.

After a bit more searching I noticed the tiny, tiny link on the footer of the website called "FAQ". This is a great start but think two things would be very helpful.

  1. Feature the FAQ link on the top bar by tags, people, badges, so it is more prominent and promotes info about points. We want active users.

  2. After reading the FAQ I felt that it would be helpful to have more details on this page. If the only way to earn points is by someone else upvoting your questions or answers then you have to somehow already have a base of users who can up-vote. How is this supposed to work? (Especially on new sites)

Thanks for all the hard work on this site!

2012-01-17 11:16:58 -0500 commented question Voting without karma should result in a tooltip

After looking far and wide I noticed the tiny FAQ link in the footer. That should be much more prominent at the top by tags, people, badges. Also, after reading the FAQ it still was unclear about earning points. It sounds like the only way to earn points is by people voting you up...but unless you already have a team of people with access to do this...then no one can vote up.

I agree with this. I have been searching far and wide...and as a new user it's very unclear HOW to earn karma points and what the benefit is. I was trying to vote up a question and can't...but no explanation as to HOW. Might be useful to include a link on the message that says 'you need X karma points' to something that says HOW you can earn the points. Otherwise users will just give up and not use this feature.

Thanks Evgeny, I registered on the test website. Will wait for your message so I can test the admin section. Thanks!

Thanks. I'll have to get askbot installed first to be able to check this out. :)

I agree this would be a much used feature. Most sites would want to feature latest questions on their main site. See other examples at: http://sikhnet.answerbase.com/Widgetbuilder.aspx

I saw this info: http://askbot.org/doc/import-data.html however it wasn't clear what format a file would have to be in to import data. I would likely be exporting from existing system in a tabular format or csv.

THanks Evgeny for the comment/response. At this point it would be at least those fields (question detail and title) our intention is to move at least some of the questions over from our old system that. The could all be under one user account if needed.

2012-01-13 18:02:55 -0500 asked a question Way to Import New Questions for new site?

We have an old FAQ section where we have tons of questions asked by users that we would love to be able to import into Askbot. Does anyone know of a way to import questions without manually entering them one by one?

I'm sure there are others who are in the same situation.

Thanks!
