subscribe to tags via email
Currently, one can use RSS to follow particular tags but an option to subscribe to tags and get emails would be very useful

Users can subscribe to interesting tags or site admin can enable a separate "subscribed" set of tags.
If that set is enabled, it is also possible to "force subscribe" selected people to tags, however those individuals may opt out.

So, yeah, what I am looking for can be consider a UI change. I don't prefer the front page options since it slows down the page loading for everyone and has a cluttered feel to it. What would be useful instead is to be able to click on a tag and get an option to subscribe to that tag and get emails. An option right next to the rss feed for that specific tag would be nice to have. Is that feasible?
Yes, maybe in a hoverbox associated with a tag, and maybe make tags you subscribe to or ignore visually distinct.
That would be great. If users can click on tags, get a brief description of that tag ala stackexchange along with the ability to follow via email or rss feeds would be ideal
