Fix "Add a comment" on Ask Askbot

On Ask Askbot at http://askbot.org/en/questions, one cannot add a comment to any question or to any answer.

@Evgeny, could this be fixed?

@Evgeny, I see you added a comment... Were you able to do it directly or did you have to post it as an answer and then turn it into a comment? (Maybe being able to post a comment depends on administrator status or on your setup?)

Edit I see this is now fixed. Thanks @Evgeny for figuring out the problem and installing MathJax.

Turns out that there is a bug where enabling MathJax and not installing mathjax code breaks some javascript. I've installed mathjax and now the comments work.

To enter a block of code:

  • enter empty line after your previous text
  • paste or type the code
  • select the code and press the button above

Thank you! That was annoying. What a relief. Also solves http://askbot.org/en/question/14550/the-comment-feature-on-this-site-seems-broken/

A workaround is to post an answer instead of a comment, and then below this new answer, click the word "more" and select "repost as a question comment". This will transform the answer into a comment.

One case in which this does not work is if you have already posted an answer, because Ask Askbot does not let you post several answers.

In particular, you cannot post a comment to your own answer (even deleting an answer does not let you add another answer, you can then only undelete the deleted answer).

To enter a block of code:

  • enter empty line after your previous text
  • paste or type the code
  • select the code and press the button above
