How does the translate tool work?

I click on different languages but very little (even if it is 99.9% in the dropdown menu) actually seems to get translated...

Good point, some of the translations are far from being complete.

Also, multilingual support (ability to change language without restarting the app) is experimental and because of that is not in the official repository.

I've set it up mainly to demonstrate that there are some more or less finished translations.

At this point, all I see is the "minutes ago" next to the signature that comes up in a different language... Nothing else for any of the other languages. Is this an open-source thing, and it is necessary now with Google translate pop-ups?

That's what I mean by "experimental" support. Do you need this feature? I did not want to make it high priority. There probably are concurrency issues.

I just fiddled around with the MULTILINGUAL support. The possibility of filtering threads by language is very nice, except for the fact that I found no possibility to limit the list of possible languages. Is there an easy way to limit the number of languages in LANGUAGES_DICT? In another thread you mentioned the possibility of translating strings in jinja templates to the chosen language. Is this feature part of the github askbot-devel repo? --Thanks

It's on this branch https://github.com/ASKBOT/askbot-devel/tree/askbot-site, however it is out of date and there are two bugs: sometimes pages show in "mixed" language and there is no multilingual search. Due to time constraints I cannot guarantee that these issues will be solved very soon.
