combine search + ask a question ?

Suggestion from a Fedora user is to combine both questions tab and ask a question into one thing. essentially use the same box for both searching as well as asking a question (ie) you search for a string and if not found, push it as a question, add more details if necessary and publish

Right now if you type something in the search bar and then click "ask a question" you will get to the ask page and the search string will appear as title of the question.

I think that auto-ask will be annoying because it will not be easy to predict when the user is ready to ask. The button ASK is always available, the only thing is that it is not active, it is just there all the time. Are you suggesting to add another "ask" prompt that will be added dynamically somehow?

Either auto-ask (maybe a site option) or add another ask prompt and remove the separate tab for asking a question and call it search/ask or something similar. The combined button would prevent people from asking the same question because it will force them to search first but it will also immediately prompt for asking if there is nothing that matches.
