[Fundraiser] Is it possible to migrate from OSQA to AskBot?

There are migrate scripts for StackExchange and ZenDesk, but none for OSQA. Is it possible to migrate from an existing OSQA installtion to AskBot?

Do you have an osqa database that you could share? It really helps to have the data to write the migration code, my email is written on my profile page. We will definitely need real data to make this happen as osqa exporter is very finicky apparently.

Evgeny, do you still need testdata? I can provide you with some if still needed

We are raising $$ to implement this feature. The goal is $1500. Once we have the fund we'll spend 7-10 days creating a quality migration script.

Deadline: July 13 2012.

To date we have $100 from:

  • Roger Shih

If we do not meet the goal, the funds will go back to the contributors. To contribute cash please paypal it to evgeny.fadeev@gmail.com or contact me at that address.

Thank you all!

Kick starter?

@Evgeny, This is a great idea but you probably should use kickstarter or similar platforms if you are going to try and crowd source features. I will be happy to promote it!

This must be put up on KickStarter to get more traction and promotion. @Evgeny

Also the time frame window be 90 days at least.

There might be more traction for this now that OSQA has looked dead for some years.

I can't seem to comment on this and this isn't an attempt to answer; but I too am curious about this ability.

At http://www.spline.de (spline) we were in need for a migration script for http://www.osqa.net/ (osqa) to askbot. It's dirty and a big hack (only works for ldap auth). But it worked for us. Maybe it's a starting point to hack you own migration script. You can find the code at https://gist.github.com/cholin/171898332d63afb8371c (github).

Thanks for this. It successfully migrated the users, but then failed with: Migrating tags... KeyError: 'forum.tag' I have no idea what this means.

Thanks for sharing, why don't you send a pull request to the askbot repository?
