Is it possible to disable comments in asbbot?

Trying to understand the installation steps as given in the official docs.

I ran: virtualenv siteName.

Now I want to clone askbot, but not sure what the relationship between siteName in the virtualenv command and projectName in the git clone command.

When I cd into siteName, what is the relationship between the siteName and the dir I want to clone askbot into?

Or should I run git clone first, then cd into the dir and run virtualenv without specifying a dir, that is, run "virtualenv ."?

Did you encounter any problems during the installation and setup?

Good feature for bloggers like us. What will be better will be to know what files to edit to place ad banners in specific pages. Perhaps boxes in the admin area to add ad codes into.

Is this one of those things were the installer is just tweaked to get a tar.gz instead of a zip file, or is it more complicated?

Attempting to install the dev version, and after cloning, and running "python2.7 setup.py develop", I got the following error:

Downloading http://www.voidspace.org.uk/downloads/mock-1.0.0.zip
error: Can't download http://www.voidspace.org.uk/downloads/mock-1.0.0.zip: 404 Not Found

Checking that website shows that only a tar.gz version of mock is available.

How can I tell it to download the tar.gz file instead?

Are postgresql and postgresql-server-devel-all a must? My server is running MySQL

About to install/compile Python 2.7.3 in parallel with the default 2.4 that came with the system. Are there any specific modules that must be compiled for Askbot to work?

At the root-level, I have access to /srv and /var, but there is no /var/www. At the user-level, which may also be assigned root privileges, www is a symlink to public_html

SELinux is disabled, and www symlinks to public_html.

Would installing the Python 3.x branch work or is it just the 2.x branch?

I have a new VPS account, and want to install the development version of askbot. In what dir. should I be in, relative to my public_html, when I run the git clone git://github.com/ASKBOT/askbot-devel.git <project-name>?

Note: I want to run the forum in a subdomain of an active site, so the final would be something like qa.mydomain.net.

Do I have to be in the folder of the subdomain in the root of the main site?

This will be great. I agree that it would be better to develop this in tandem so that this feature is immediately available to all when it is completed.

Seeing how easy it is to post spam on this forum, especially the fact the new and anonymous users can post videos and images, I would like to suggest that those set of users not be able to post videos and images.

A new user should be required to accrue a minimum Karma points before he/she can post images and videos. Anon users should not even be allowed to do that.

And it would be nice if a configurable number of offensive flags automatically hides a post and put it in a moderation queue.

On the top-left side of main page, you can see the total number of questions in the forum. It would be nice to have a widget for the sidebar that will show the number of RSS subscribers and total number of registered users.

Or does this feature exists already?

Who would be able to convert comments to answers? The poster of the question, moderator, or any user with enough Karma?

In looking at almost all the questions on this forum and on similar forums of this type, it is obvious that there tend to be more comments than answers to any question. Most times, the ratio is not even close.

But the comments have no impact on the position of a question on the front page. It would be nice if comments bump a question to the front page just as an answer would, because a comment tends to also provide an answer to a question.

Great! Now, if I want to install a new system using the repo version, what version of Django will work? Any idea when the repo version will be released as stable?

This is not an answer, but just an attempt to keep this alive, if it has not been implemented yet.
