Is "search" only for questions

Is the "search" facility only for use in questions? Or can it be used for other things? For example, in my "profile" I have set my location to Portland Oregon. Suppose that someone wanted to look for other users in Portland. Is there some way to search on this location field?

Hi Mike, search facility works in the context of selected tab for questions, tags and users. When you are in the user tab you automatically search for users, however at the moment search is only against the user name.

The "question" search looks in questions and answers, but not comments. There are a couple of other posts on this forum tagged "search" which explain a little more on how it works. Basically search supports "drill-down" mode on tags and text query, where tags and query can be updated without losing intermediate findings.

The concept of tabs for questions, tags and users doesnt apply to latest version. Please remove older posts.

@pajju, it still does... If you go to tags - you search for tags, go to users - search for the users. However you have to hit the "search" button in those cases. Re: old posts you are right there must be a way to "archive" posts that became irrelevant. Something for the todo list down the road.

Okay. Thanks.

For older posts and irrelavant ones, lets just put it to say tags named - Archive and an askbotVersions tag 1.1 or 1.2 and so on + a deprecated tag? @Evgeny
