Can I respond to a question via email?
 
   
  
 
 
Is there a setting that would allow users to respond to a question via email without going to the askbot site?
 
 
To enter a block of code:
 
     
  • enter empty line after your previous text
    •  
  • paste or type the code
    •  
  • select the code and press the  button above
    •

        Not supported today. This is fraught with perils. Unless users are disciplined, you might end up with a bunch of "answers" which are really comments and it starts looking like an email thread :)

I would greatly appreciate such a feature. I'm following a lot of mailing lists and have the habit of just diagonally scanning through them all. Going to answers.ros.org is a hurdle I'd rather not take while doing so. I already configured the askbot to send me all mails, but the format is far from nice. Don't take this as an assault for the askbot system(I do see the benefits it brings), but rather as an extra feature request.

Thanks to a benevolent sponsor, we have a feature "ask by email" still experimental, and not yet active here, will add documentation on this soon.
 
Respond by email - is it a good idea? - the problem is a high potential for duplicate answers. What do you think?

        Email notification are ok since you are in control over the email format . Email reply integration can get messy since email formating is pretty loose. Maybe a plugin for various email clients can be created to post an answer or a commend based on email notifications...

        I, for one, would love to see a "Respond by e-mail" feature. If duplicate answers are a concern, then perhaps you could consider adding a toggle for the feature in the admin interface. I would be much more concerned about duplicate questions with the "Ask by e-mail" feature...
