Status of extra modules?

http://askbot.org/doc/optional-modules.html

Is django-followit going to be available via pip and have releases?

Are the changes in the forked version of markdown2 going to be merged with markdown2 upstream?

Do we still need the development version of django-avatar or does http://pypi.python.org/pypi/django-avatar/1.0.5 include the required functionality?

Rahul, I have a question about packaging - how often can an rpm distribution be updated? Is it automated - i.e. if say askbot has a new release on the pypi - can a new rpm be generated automatically?

It is not automatic but pretty trivial usually to bump up to a new release. I have a review request at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=699336. Waiting on the dependencies to be reviewed first. We have progress

Apparently editing comments is pretty buggy. Something to fix

Markdown2 is somebody else's module, so there is no guarantee that the changes will be merged into the main project - it is up to the person who is in charge.

As of now (June 2011) - a development version of django-avatar is required. Is that a problem for the Linux packaging?

Django-followit will be released on pypi and it will be maintained on github, maybe other modules will be split off in the same fashion, in fact it can be done now.

The only modification to the markdown2 is the one that allows automatic insertion of YouTube videos. And unfortunately the feature cannot be easily extended to other video hosting services, so it is kind of a limited hack, but works well for YouTube so far (and one more service).

I will talk to them about merging that code. Devel version is no problem. Just confirming so that I can package. It would be nice to get django-followit and others on pypi. Makes it easier to test

Do let me know when you have django-followit with a release in pypi. I intend to get it packaged soon
