is askbot .net compatible?

Wandering if this is something that I could implement on .net, (vb.net, c#) sites easily

Maybe try running it on Iron Python? This post might help you.

Creating a new application in another language will be very time consuming, will probably take 6 months to a year to a reasonably skilled programmer.
