2015-10-05 10:58:31 -0500 marked best answer Bug: The Preformatted Button Isn't Inserting pre tags

For my last post the pre-formatted text button didn't work, but when I typed in <pre>MY TEXT HERE</pre> it worked just fine. It would be nice if the horizontal scroll bar didn't appear as I pasted from a standard-sized terminal.

I don't know what kind of license you prefer. For an English Dictionary, the Princeton WordNet program and datafiles are essentially BSD/MIT licensed. I haven't looked for LGPL libs with dictionaries.

2015-10-05 10:58:31 -0500 marked best answer Classes/Levels of Moderators?

Can the rights of a moderator be selectively enabled/disabled?

Are there already such templates?

For example, a moderator who could screen questions, but not answers?

2015-10-05 10:58:31 -0500 marked best answer Would askbot be a cool iPad App? :-)

I think so, but I'm biased. Better yet if it could piggy-back a P2P protocol somehow to make hosting cost amortized.

2012-08-25 22:50:28 -0500 marked best answer Add ability for users to ignore certain other users' posts

http://ask.sagemath.org/users/104/sriram/

The above user spammed/overposted many many times, and it would be nice if I just didn't see his/her posts. =) A more complicated solution would be to have Hide/Unhide on a per question basis; almost the opposite of favorites, without any karma penalty.

When no admin is around to moderate, everyone is at the mercy of spammers. Also, the people who downvote such users only get penalized themselves since said user can't have his karma fall below 1. Perhaps a downvote should not cost the voter any karma if the target user is below a threshold, say 10? (Perhaps it already is, I haven't downvoted yet.)

2011-06-18 17:47:30 -0500 marked best answer Classes/Levels of Moderators?

Hi there, no this feature is not included and not planned I think one level is sufficient. For example SO has only one level and very few moderators. You should not discount "mental controls", they actually work quite well :).

Btw, increase karma gradually opens the moderation rights of regular users and the individual barriers are tunable in the "settings". Settings are available only to site admins, moderators cannot access them.

Depends on the target market, old computers, new computers, or both....web design has always had this problem. What's the point of writing a new framework for old browsers only? Just saying.

Here's an animated/interactive SVG file.

Not a robot, but interesting. =)

Why is SVG not allowed as an upload file type? I'm guessing it just runs javascript?

2010-10-22 12:20:30 -0500 marked best answer RFP: Would it be useful to have a "suggest retire" link/button?

For the answered in comments, probably it's better to "repost comment as answer"? And if the question has no answer, well, maybe you'll just have to wait a bit longer to get them answered? For a low traffic site it's not surprising to have questions without answers.

You can also "delete" the question and it won't show any more - perhaps there are some questions that might as well be pruned.

Well, also you can try to give answers to some of those "unanswered". I think hiding decent content is not a solution (but of course some stuff can and should be just deleted).

On this site Q&A functionality is kind of stretched as here we have questions that are actually bug reports. Personally, I'm fine with that, but maybe I'll find some inspiration to style bug reports distinctly different from questions.

2010-10-22 07:20:26 -0500 asked a question RFP: Would it be useful to have a "suggest retire" link/button?

I notice there are a lot of old questions with "no answers" even though they have been answered in the comments, or implicitly by fixes.

Maybe a user of sufficient karma could click on "suggest retire", so the question could be grayed out or something, perhaps archived -- in some way indicate that it's answered or closed.

I own a copy of this particular book (that's part of the cover in the image), so I think it's "fair use" :-).

The app could check the domain against its own, and copy if not equal.

It is not copied, it's hot-linked. This is a security issue: DOS attack.

I'm hotlinking an image from ask.sagemath.org to see if askbot copies it, or uses the other server's resources.

2010-10-20 09:57:21 -0500 marked best answer Bug: The Preformatted Button Isn't Inserting pre tags

sorry, I did not understand this in the beginning. By "did not work" do you mean that you see the unexpected scroll bar?

I think the scroll bar appearance probably depends on the default browser styles. The preformatted text window does appear narrower than the answer area, so maybe that's the reason... Probably it warrants some improvement to the style sheet. Could you identify your browser/OS? I'll try to find a similar computer and check this out.
